I once saw a T-shirt on Etsy that said "THE MATRIX WAS A DOCUMENTARY" written in big, bold letters on the front. I ordered it immediately. Just a funny shirt, I thought, until I saw the actual documentary A GLITCH IN THE MATRIX. The film is the first to seriously address the question: are we living in a simulation? You may roll your eyes, but it's a film you should go into with an open mind. Using interviews with true believers alongside philosophy and science, director Rodney Ascher examines not only his central question but also begs larger questions on the enigma of the human experience and all its oddities. Ascher never firmly answers any of these questions - how could he, really, if no one knows? But that's what keeps the film stirring in your mind.
