Israeli producer Michal Weits' powerful directorial debut focuses on her personal reckoning of her grandfather Yosef Weitz's role in the plight of Palestinians during the founding of the State of Israel. At times, BLUE BOX feels like Sarah Polley's STORIES WE TELL, but with a dash more political tension. The film weaves together family members' recollections, questions of the past, primary sources (including Weits' diary), and examinations of what it all may mean today for Michal, the viewers, and the people of Israel and Palestine.
