KING: A FILMED RECORD... MONTGOMERY TO MEMPHIS

1/3
1970 / 185 mins / USA / English
KING: A FILMED RECORD...MONTGOMERY TO MEMPHIS is a comprehensive look at the work of Dr. MLK Jr. It follows his commitment to nonviolent protest from the Montgomery bus boycotts in 1955 until his assassination in 1968. With a runtime over three hours and composed almost entirely of newsreel footage, this film makes masterful use of archival sources, interspersed with narrations by Paul Newman, Harry Belafonte, and others. The result is an extensive look at King's life's work and his belief in the power of peaceful protest in the face of violent opposition. KING: A FILMED RECORD was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1970 and was admitted to the National Film Registry for its historical importance.
