MY FAVORITE PICTURE OF YOU

2013 / 4 mins / USA / English

This is a mini tearjerker with loads of emotion packed into just three minutes. It is textbook bittersweet - you will smile and you will cry. Or perhaps that's just silly old emotional me. This lovely little film will make you miss your grandparents, even if they're still here. Old photos and home videos in shades of creams, pinks, and black and white glide across your screen, like flipping through a picture album, showing a couple through the years. Over these images, we hear the man ask the woman all different questions about her early life and theirs together. Her voice is weak, his is strong. When she can't remember, he reminds her. When she becomes frustrated struggling to recollect her life, the man says that it is okay, she can go rest, and thanks her for reminiscing with him.

The beauty in all this melancholy is that others become our memory keepers. When we can no longer recall the things that have made up our lives, our loved ones do it for us. This continues after we are gone, and we live on in the memories others hold of us - both their own and ours.
