MY FAVORITE WAR is an animated documentary telling the personal story of its director, Ilze, about her youth in the Cold War Latvia, USSR. It is a coming-of-age story about finding one's identity and resisting a mighty authoritarian regime's brainwashing. First, we meet Ilze as a little girl playing war on her grandfather's farm; then, she faces the horror of war threats at school. Ilze lives in a clash between the struggles of Soviet reality and the propaganda that ignores what people are truthfully experiencing. Ilze must come to terms with the opposing beliefs of the people she loves most. MY FAVORITE WAR is about the choices a girl has to make at a very young age and the process of finding her voice and the courage to speak out.
