MY SILVER HAIR

2015 / 2 mins / USA / English

In this short and sweet film - less than 90 seconds - an unnamed woman explains over a voicemail why she decided to stop dyeing her hair and let her natural gray grow out. Images from beauty magazines and advertisements of bygone eras rapidly fade into the next while she speaks. Her decision and "rebranding" of gray hair as "silver" is a quiet yet unmistakable rebellion against beauty standards imposed upon women. What I love most about this micro-documentary is that we know virtually nothing about this woman, not even a name, yet in less than two minutes, we get such a clear sense of her, all through her hair.
