PICKLE

1/3
2016 / 16 mins / USA / English
Do you remember your favorite childhood pet? It was probably a dog, maybe a cat, that you had for many years who peacefully passed away at a ripe old age. Well, maybe not so for Tom and Debbie...
In PICKLE, filmmaker Amy Nicholson interviews her father and stepmother about their long list of pets over the years. But forget about the classic dog or cat. Tom and Debbie have welcomed into their home a fish that couldn't swim, a paraplegic possum, a cat with cardiac problems, an amputee chicken, a blind dog named Barney, and more. The couple shows extraordinary compassion for these animals, inventing and constructing devices and setups to aid their quality of life. Even when recounting the many animal deaths they've experienced, there's always a light-heartedness in the film, as Tom and Debbie know they loved each pet as best they could. Their quirkiness only complements their compassion, and in PICKLE we see a testament to the unique experience of pet ownership and tender loving care.
